Killarney Looking Good Competition
Killarney Looking Good Competition is organised by a sub-committee for Killarney Working Group. The latter group is representative of public, business and voluntary interests in Killarney: such as local authorities, Forbairt, the various tourism bodies, Chamber of Commerce and community service.
The Killarney Looking Good Competition has been one of our great successes with the emphasis on floral displays, provision and maintenance of traditional shop fronts, natural stone walls and facades, use of Irish, appreciation of nature and heritage, regular painting of buildings and the taking of responsibility for the maintenance/cleanliness of pavements adjacent to an individuals premises.
A video is prepared each year highlighting the standard of presentations and improvements to the environment throughout the year. This is used in conjunction with extensive media coverage and a presentation of awards ceremony to further encourage development in the town.
The competition is a good example of a whole community working in unison to achieve overall benefit for the town: - the effort made by one person to improve his environment confers benefits on the neighbourhood.
The organisers of this competition are conscious of the need to ensure that our environment compliments the richly endowed natural environment which draws one million visitors each year.
