Judging has begun for the annual Killarney Looking Good competition, which celebrates local homes and business who make an effort to keep their premises tidy and bright. Here are some tips from the judges on how your property can stand out:
Freshly painted walls, fences and doors always look fantastic
Colourful window boxes and hanging baskets with real flowers
Tidy area outside the building, including the placement of bins is very important
Neighbourhood effort - the Gardening with your Neighbours prize celebrates a number of properties together which have made a special effort to improve the overall appearance of their neighbourhood, so get the whole community involved!
The competition is not just for homes and business - we also have a category for schools, so ensure the schoolyard is kept clean and tidy, and get students involved
With so many tourists visiting Killarney every year, take pride in your business and ensure the premises and surrounding areas are litter-free, freshly-painted and with appropriate signage
Remember that Killarney Looking Good and Killarney Tidy Towns are year-round efforts, so keep an eye out for litter in side streets or laneways. Cigarette butts and chewing gum are the two biggest culprits that the judges look out for!
